About Compound

Compound is an independent publication about personal finance and fintech — written for regular people, not finance professionals.

The money industry runs on confusion. Fees hide in footnotes. "High-yield" means whatever marketing wants it to mean this quarter. Comparison sites rank whoever pays them the most. And most financial advice online is either a sales pitch wearing an explainer's clothes, or jargon that assumes you already speak the language.

We started Compound to be the opposite of that: plain-English explainers on how money actually works, honest breakdowns of what financial products cost, and clear-eyed looks at the fine print. When a product is a bad deal, we say so. When we don't know something, we say that too.

What we cover

  • Banking: checking and savings accounts, high-yield accounts, fintech banks — what APY means, where fees hide, how to choose.
  • Credit: how scores work, how to build credit from zero, how to use cards without the debt trap.
  • Investing basics: IRAs, 401(k)s, index funds, brokerages — the boring fundamentals, minus the hype.
  • Budgeting: apps, emergency funds, cash-flow systems that survive contact with real life.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell anything. No ads, no sponsored posts, no pay-to-play rankings.
  • We don't give personal financial advice. We explain how things work; what you do with your money is your call — for big decisions, talk to a qualified professional.
  • We don't promise returns, quote rates as permanent, or pretend the fine print doesn't matter. Rates and terms change; we tell you to check the current ones.
